Interest in solid shampoo bars has been growing recently, for two reasons. The first being people are far more aware of the need to reduce plastic use and the second is they're great for your hair!
Some people manage the transition seamlessly and love the solid bars from the get go. However, there is usually a small transition window as years of using harsh chemicals and stripping the hair takes a little while to repair.
A typical transition may go something like this;
Wash 1. - What have I done? Hair can feel ....... weird. sometimes waxy or chewy. This is just your hairs reaction to a dettox. Don't be tempted to wash again in your old shampoo as your just going to go back to the start. Things you can do to help are make sure you rinse properly and you can also give your hair a conditioning rinse. This is sometimes the point people are put off as the conditioning rinse comes from apple cider vinegar. Soaps and shampoos are alkaline and a rinse with apple cider vinegar can reduce the alkaline "shock" to the hair and balance the PH.
This feeling will pass quite quickly and your hair and scalp will benefit. To give a conditioning rinse just mix 1/2 to 4 tsp of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water and apply to hair, you can even repurpose a spritz spray bottle. Massage into hair and scalp like you would conditioner and leave for 1 minute then rinse. Don't worry about the vinegary smell, that will evaporate far quicker then your hair can dry and you will be left with the lovely smell of your shampoo bar.
Wash 2. - This wash should leave hair feeling much better, especially when wet. It may still feel a little greasy when dry, but only you will notice it.
Wash 3. - There may still be a little feeling of waxiness when dry but you should be getting there. Don't forget to help your hair with the conditioning rinse, I tend to do it every other wash. You should begin to feel that hair doesn't need washing quite as often.
Wash 4 - Hair should feel loads better than after wash 1and you can probably see the new life in your hair. This transition period can last for 0 - 3/4 weeks depending on your hair and scalp condition and the amount of time you wash your hair. But it is worth it.

You have to give your hair the time to make the adjustment. It will stop overproducing all the natural oils to cope with the harsh chemicals and will reach a state of balance.
